Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to some common questions about assessments, exam access arrangements, and tuition.
How long will the assessment take?
Dyslexia Assessments typically take between 3 and 4 hours. Breaks are provided regularly during the assessment. On rare occasions it may be necessary to split the assessment over two sessions.
Strengths and Difficulties assessments usually take around 2 hours.
What should my child bring?
A full water bottle and snacks if needed.
Will a diagnosis guarantee exam access arrangements?
No. Exam access arrangements are based on evidence of need, and are the decision of the school SENCO. However, a diagnosis can be used to support this evidence, and exam access arrangements may be recommended for the school to consider.
My child’s school have not assessed them for exam access arrangements. Can we arrange this through you?
No. Assessments for exam access arrangements have to be initiated by the school. They must gather evidence of need and pass on JCQ documentation before an assessment can take place.
Can tutoring take place in my child’s school?
Absolutely, as long as the school agree and can provide a quiet work area. Many of our students have their tutoring lessons during the school day. Others have them in school, but at the beginning or end of the school day.
